~ WCYC 2024 TIKI REGATTA ~

THE 11TH ANNUAL TIKI REGATTA - JULY 27, 2024

Report by Rear Commodore Brian Randall

A big thank you to all who helped put together the 11th annual Tiki Regatta.

This year we officially registered in Regatta Network and had 6 entries to the race.  We were very excited to bring in 2 boats that had never raced before - Bryan Chalais and Nick Papageorges (way to go fellas!) After a wonderful Captains meeting (thank you John Kossa for the fantastic breakfast burritos, danish and coffee), the Race Committee Boat headed out to the open ocean. (Thank you to the Monk’s and their beautiful yacht “Fluke” for taking on the Committee boat responsibilities.)

We had 5 boats make it to the starting line; Running Water, Getting Off, Fortuity, Sea Salt, and Mermaid Trap. The wind was blowing close to 8 knots and we chose Course “9” a 5 mile loop (SF, A, G, W,A, Finish) Everyone started without penalty and the fun began: including cannon fire, pirate music, amazing decorations and well..... there was even some reports of fishing occurring on the mark set boat - Aquaholic (You’re welcome Mike Wagner! )

It was a beautiful day on the water and fun was had by all. A big shout out to our race committee; Ed Sicard, Scott Ryan, Cindy Ryan, John Kossa, Dave Monk, and Mike Wagner for running the flags, checking boats in and keeping the time. Your help was outstanding.

The final standings were as follows:

                       1st - Getting Off - Walter Folsom

                       2nd - Fortuity - Bryan Chalais
                      3rd - Sea Salt - Billy Hancock

4th - Running Water - Dino (Phil Bellafaire)

                       5th - Mermaid Trap - Nick Papageorges

Blondie Trophy: Walter Folsom ( 1st place - WCYC Boat)

The post race party touted over 50 members in attendance and the tacos were amazing! Thank you to everyone.... It certainly takes a village!!!
