Brunch at San Juan Hills Golf Club
The movie industry has its Oscar to commemorate its superstars. The television scions have the Emmys to honor their members for outstanding performance. The Grammys are awarded to exemplary performers in the music industry. And we of the West Coast Yacht Club have our annual soiree whereby we recognize our intrepid leaders as well as introducing with much fanfare our yachting commodores for 2016.
Resplendent in their formal yacht attire, the 2015 year was saluted and our revered commodores were accorded all the honors for their devotion to duty. The events of the year were recounted, some with hilarity and we were inspired by the grand events planned for 2016 both on and off the water.
Rapprochement was the order of the day as power boaters and their sailing counterparts laid aside their exaggerated differences and pledged to move beyond such trivial matters, embrace one another as brothers and sisters of the sea, and eagerly anticipate the forthcoming yachting season in 2016.
Of course, the venue at the San Juan Hills Golf Club was most accommodating to our particular tastes.
One distinct advantage was the very close proximity of the bar and its attendant dispensing our favorite elixirs. Somehow he knows not our names but our preferred beverages and makes the proper distinction.
The buffet was simply sumptuous, a veritable bacchanal of gastronomical delight. Not to be outdone, our incoming Vice Commodore McNamara brought with him a veritable cornucopia of limes, perfect for enhancing vodka, gin, or tequila.
The only thing missing from this gala event was Santa himself though the spirit of thanksgiving set our minds to the blessings of fellowship and camaraderie of our dear friends for which we have been most fortunate to receive.
